To walk in the footsteps of a Great Character of History and, for a visit, appropriate his universe, enter his daily life and his intimacy, is to get closer to his soul.
To absorb the atmosphere of the place where an artist has lived, loved, worked, doubted and created allows you to appreciate his life in a different light and gives the work another dimension, so that, after this experience, it will never be quite the same, without becoming quite different.
Sometimes museums, sometimes historical monuments or simply "places of memory", each of these houses conceals many secrets that time has not erased: secret of a man, a woman, secret of a couple, of a love, the secret of a work, an inspiration, and so many other secrets ...
From the house to the estate, from the castle to the apartment and from the museum to the workshop, the "Houses of the Illustrious" are therefore major places of memory for the understanding of History and the role played by its political actors, religious, scientific and artistic.
Label « Maisons des Illustres » de France
Created by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the label "Maisons des Illustres" brings to the attention of the public the places whose vocation is to preserve and transmit the memory of the women and men who have inhabited them a and who took part in the political, social and cultural history of France.
The Label is awarded to the houses that guarantee a quality cultural program (authenticity and originality of the museum content, regular organization of cultural events) and offers forms of accompaniment to the visit adapted to all, including the public school.
The Gustave Moreau museum below is for example part of the "Maisons des Illustres" labeled.
