'Je t'aime... moi non plus', Serge Gainsbourg's manuscript

'Je t'aime... moi non plus' — an immediate success after it's first broadcast on the French radio (Europe 1) in 1967. A certain beautiful married blonde woman, with the initials B.B asked him to write the most exceptional love song he could think of. He composed this song the same night as 'Bonnie and Clyde'.

The song angered Brigitte Bardot's husband, Gunter Sachs, who worked to have it withdrawn. Gainsbourg later re-recorded the song in 1969, with his new girlfriend, Jane Birkin. It was released in his 1969 album Jane Birkin – Serge Gainsbourg.

1,000 hand numbered copies

This manuscript consists of one page (254 x 202 mm), handwritten by Serge Gainsbourg in black ink, and given to Jane Birkin's brother in 1967.

In the past few years, Gainsbourg's manuscripts have been fought over as they have become more and more expensive. In 2011, 'Sorry Angel', a manuscript about Gainsbourg and Birkin's breakup, sold for 51,150 euros. A grocery list for his maid, Elisa, can be sold for several thousands of euros. Sotheby's sold the manuscript of 'Je t’aime... moi non plus' for 75,150 euros in 2012.
